The truth be told, I began a Top 10 Christmas 'whatever the year was' Gifts List a few years back. I have no idea what became of the lists. On a good year, the list got expanded to 75! Can you believe it? Good grief!

A little pricey I know; but, a real beauty! It reminds me of 'fire!' I can see myself  in this for years to come! I best!

II.  Girlfriend Collective Leggings

I was all ready to write leggings off! Too many people weren't wearing them all that well, or so I thought! And then I ran across these! Well!

III.  Chi Chi Earmuffs

A good way to keep the ears warm! Cold ears are about as bad as cold fingers and toes!

IV.  Manu Atelier Bags

Incredible bags, for day or evening! Not too small, and not too large...

V.  Magnolia Market Christmas Bells

I've chosen something that I can NOT wear! Mmmmm! Maybe, just maybe... 

VI.  Night Approach Gold Shoes

Silver, white gold or platinum is more my thing; but, these speak to me! Wear it with dresses, skirts, jeans...

Retro enough for me! Back to gold again...

The Holiday 2016 season is here! "What are you going to wear to the festivities?"

You are going to go to more than one holiday affair, right? I'm thinking of Christmas here, in particular. [More on New Year's Eve, later.] Most folk do! Be prepared to appear in more than one place. I say that, jovially...

Two questions beg to be answered ---

1)  Where will the party be? Will it be at the workplace, or away from the workplace? Away from the workplace affairs are, a lot of the times but not always, more formal. At the workplace affairs are; a lot of the times but not always, less formal. I wouldn't get overly hung up on it one way or the other. You know your folk best! Your instincts will kick in, as you set about preparations...

2)  What are you most comfortable in? A dress? A blouse, and a skirt? A blouse, and pants? A sweater with a skirt, or pants? Given the time of year that it is, you will want outerwear on hand...

I; personally, opt for pants during the week. Come the weekend, especially Sunday, I want to step it up a notch or two!

As a woman, I know that I have looked forward to the office Christmas party. It's a time to show the even better self, and shine in a different sort of way. I always pull out a dress. Any excuse to wear a pair of heels! For many ladies, it is all about a little black dress, AKA, LBD! Truthfully it can be about any color of a little dress! Change your hair, makeup, earrings/necklace/bracelet/watch/ring, or handbag/shoes, and be on your merry little way! Any number of designer houses would be proud of us!

Longer earrings than usual are a given, whatever you wear. It ups the ante, in an instant! Chokers are a part of the jewelry scene this year, but not in a big way in my neck of the woods. I have yet to see one! Oh, well! What can I say; other than, it ain't a pearl necklace! If you are more of a necklace or a ring or bangle/watch girl; by all means, go for it. Strike a balance, whatever you do. No point in looking like you do not know your head from your feet!

I've seen quite a bit of fur this season; mostly faux, in stores and online. I find the faux fur scarves and handbags to be quite fetching. I cut a vintage fur coat down into a vest, a few months back. I need to finish the edges, and wear that baby! Soon, very soon...

Velvet is such a winner this fall and winter, be it a jacket, blouse, skirt or dress! What luxury!

I am quickly running out of time, here. I think I've said about all that I wanted to say. In a nutshell, just enough to get you to thinking about feeling good, looking good and being good, at least until next week! I really must start writing this blog earlier, but I hate to be too quick on the draw. Some of the most interesting news can come out before Friday, 5:00 P.M., EST!

The White House decorations are pretty nice, aren't they? The replicas of Sunny and Bo are adorable!

Do you read cookbooks? I do, some of the time! Check out The Best Books About Food of 2016, according to Smithsonian.com...

Black Friday sales! Small Business Saturday sales! Cyber Monday sales! After Christmas sales! Where does it all begin? Where does it all end? Amazon Black Friday sales began last Wednesday. Walmart Cyber Week sales begin day after tomorrow. Confused? I'm not, yet. But if this keeps up...

I moonlighted at an exclusive women's fashion store weekends during the 90's for all but ten years running. Enjoyable as it was, I am not a huge fan of running around on Black Fridays. No need to, really. "The deals" ; be what they may, are often available leading up to and following Thanksgiving. Besides, "The deals"  just get better on Cyber Monday if not during December! Aaaaah; silky, silky! I wouldn't be too hasty in spending my hard earned dollars come Friday, if I were you. I'm just saying...

Holiday windows are uuuuup! Funny thing, though. Some look; rather interesting, shall we say. You be the judge...

Saks Fifth Avenue,  Macy's,  Bergdorf Goodman,  Barneys...

I thought I had a Nordstrom's to post; but, I just can't seem to put my fingers on it. It's probably because I'm dreaming of turkey, dressing, cranberry something or another and sweets! [I'm mom's helper and, and clean up crew! No need to mess up a good thing!] Do forgive...

A downtown Manhattan Coach store has opened on Fifth Avenue! That I would like to see! I have one. I wouldn't mind having another...

Bodysuits are It, in my book! The bodysuit makes everything fit so much more smoothly! That said, monitor your intake before donning! You do not want to have to make a bee dive to the powder room...

Not all cities are created equal, when it comes to shopping! No worries, we've got you covered. Get ready, set, go:  to the best Black Friday shopping, in every state! Wow!  

It is not at all unusual to find Black Friday sales the week before, the week of, and the week after Thanksgiving Day. Grab your cellphone, notepad or laptop, and see what you can see - today! You may as well know it. Harper's Bazaar has a list of stores you might want to consider going to. Excited, yet? I thought so!  

Kenneth Cole is expected to shut down almost all; if not, all of its stores. Macy's is expected to begin to close up to 100 stores, before year's end...

What can I say; other than, plan accordingly!

Some of the best commercials come out during the holiday season. I have run across Home for Christmas, Greatest Gift, and Coming Home for Christmas already. If these don't get you in the mood for the holidays, I do not know what will...

The phenomenon of Singles' Day!

Move over Black Friday! Move over Cyber Monday! A new kid is on the block! It is Singles' Day!

The online shopping event which originated in China, has reportedly eclipsed all previous online sales records here, there and everywhere!

The USA is beginning to get in on the new Singles' Day action! Why I received a Singles' Day sales blurb from J.Renee', just moments ago!

"Why China, and why now?" you might ask.Your guess is as good as mine! "Enjoy the ride," I say!

Tights weather is here! I discovered long ago that T.J.Maxx  is a good place to get hosiery and tights.  I like tights the color of my skin, with the occasional pair of black fishnets thrown in for good measure. Patterned tights are making a splash this fall. You may want to pick up a pair or two, just for the fun of it...

I'm dreaming of turkey, dressing and all of the desserts that I can get! Sooooo me!

I'm having Christmas catalog fever!

Hello!

The Christmas Books, AKA, Christmas catalogs for 2016 are out! Well; some of them, anyways! One of the joys of the holiday season is purviewing the catalogs! It is almost as good as window shopping! Fun, fun, fun!

The first one to come across the desk was the Neiman Marcus The Christmas Book 2016, at 300 pages. It has almost as many pages as the Bloomingdale's and the Nordstrom catalogs put together! Oh; well, and any how...

The faux fur vests and coats (on page 27) for little girls are adorable. The Vintage Electric Bikes (on page 37) are; well, cool! The TCHAL black jumpsuit (on page 81) is absolutely stunning; that is, with or without a blouse! It must be those small pleats...

The 2016 Fantasy Gifts (on pages 118-139) always cause one to flip through to all of the pages as fast as you can go! You never know what you will find, but you do know this! You will be surprised!

I'm tickled about the Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness Pie (on page 120). What's not to like? It's just more good eats, if you ask me!

At the Love to Give Collection (on pages 140-153), the Ultimate Lip Collection by Yves Saint Laurent (on page 142) must be the quintessential "Pretty in pink!"

At Fun to Give (on pages 154-169), the humongous polar bears would look quite nice in a pre-approved corner somewhere! Thank you, very much!

There is Cool Factor (on pages 170-185), The Creative Process (on pages 186-217),  and Beauty (on pages 218-249)...

The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer (on page 225) goes for a whopping $399! It must be some dryer!

There is Coming Home (on pages 250-261), also...

There is At House Rules (on pages 262-273), too. The Misook Black Jacket (on page 266) reminds me of a black Marisa Christina sweater with a bursting star pattern made of clear crystal beads that I once had. Both; stunning, again!

There is Countdown (on pages 274-285), as well. It is exactly what it suggests! Last minute this, last minute that...

Aaaaah, that was pretty nice! Next!            

The second one to come across the desk was the Bloomingdale's Glow What Fun! Holiday 2016, at 142 pages. It begins with an array of shoes, handbags, clothing, perfume, jewelry, etc. (on pages 4-105)...

Most fetching is the Master Class in Cool (on pages 80-91) section. It's all groovy guy stuff!

There are a few more categories to see, but I'm going to jump right over to Present Perfection (on pages 112-139). It has more than 200 gifts for mom, dad, squad, bro, one true love, bae, in-laws and little ones! Did we miss anyone? Hardly! You won't either!

Good enough! Next!

The third one to come across the desk was the Nordstrom November 2016, at 150 pages. The pleated skirts really pop! I love me some small pleated skirts:  above the knee, right below the knee, at the ankle. You get the idea. Call it being timeless and feminine, all at the same time...

Alrighty, now! Next!

Although not a catalog, it would be remiss of me to not mention Oprah's Favorite Things 2016. I've posted a few things from the list to my Pinterest pages, already. Although the Poinsettia Flower Pot Cake all but "takes the cake," I have designs on the Cypress Grove Holiday Cheese "Cake" myself! Why does it almost always come down to food for me? I reckon it's because I've got good taste buds! Hah!

Believe it or not, I am all but plum wore out from flipping through all of these catalogs! But; oh, what a natural high!

Don't Worry, Be Happy! The same deals can usually be had throughout the week!

The Christmas Book by Neiman Marcus is online! Online shopping continues to climb. Convenience, convenience, convenience!             

How much are you willing to pay for shoes and clothes? Women are willing to pay 76% of the retail cost; the exception being, for athleisure wear. Quite frankly, I was surprised. I can't remember when I did pay that much! Call me prudent or frugal; if you will, it's all the same to me...

The desire for athleisure wear continues to grow! It is no longer about whatever fabric you can get your hands on, and a cut that no one would want to be caught in! [Leave the track suits where they belong:  in the closet!] Luxury fabrics and comfortable cuts, they rule! From the office to the gym; we go, in a jiffy! Two thumbs up!

I had a mammogram several days ago. This would have made me feel a whole lot better about it! Now you tell me!

Why are you paying more for gasoline?

Hello!

Bless your hearts! Most vehicles do not require high octane gasoline! Pardon my saying so; but, "What a colossal waste!" AAA suggests that if you want to buy something other than regular gasoline, buy top tier gasoline instead! Top tier costs less than high octane, it has less emissions, and it causes engines to run more efficiently. Now this I can see. The nearest retailer would be more than happy to assist you...

London Fashion Week whizzed by, and I have yet to complete going through all of the collections. I made sure that I got a look at Giorgio Armani. The color scheme is purple, indigo, and shades of grey. The wraps and jackets are fitted, but not overly so. The gently gathered waists, and elasticized 'right above the knee' indigo shorts work well with them. Call it a nontraditional suit, if you will. I am all about those shorts suits! Nice...

Be careful of what you put on, or in my case, do not put on your eyes! I walk several miles every week day, but I have not always covered my eyes. I have a retina tear in my right eye to deal with, as a result. Sunglasses can keep objects from getting into the eyes, and keep harmful rays out. But, they wear out just like anything else. Be mindful of this, and change pairs every so often. What a fashion accessory! I am going to pull out the four pairs that I have, and start wearing them. It's about time!

The 38th International Folk Festival is going on, even as we speak! It is one of North Carolina's premier events! I would head to the food tents first, if I were you!  

As we head into a plethora of fall activities, including the presidential election, remember this my fellow Americans:  United We Stand, Divided We Fall!

The first day of fall is Thursday coming!

Hello!

I enjoy the changing of the seasons! After a hot and humid July and August, those of us who live here in the Sandhills are more than ready for a cool breeze or two. And make no mistake about it, a breeze is in the air! Give it a week or two, we'll be donning sweaters and jackets for sure!

Fall means county and state fairs, fall festivals, football, and the New York, London, Paris & Milan Spring 2017 Ready-To-Wear fashion shows! Yes! It also means apples, pumpkins, hay rides, and planning for the upcoming holidays. All in all, it's just a wonderful time of the year!

Ralph Lauren & Tom Ford's fall collections are out! Items are available for purchase; now, as in im-me-di-ate-ly! How cool is that? I like planning ahead; but, sometimes one just wants to be able to walk into the store, find it, put it on, and walk out! I've done it, a many a time! Back to the present!

The brown + black = Western Wear, in Ralph Lauren's latest collection! Oh, joy! The hats, the necklaces (especially the collars), the sweaters, the jackets, the boots! Aaaaah, so thrilling! His basic aesthetic is that of  "country, and city chic!" He gets it! I've been a fan since my retail days up in Virginia at an exclusive ladies fashion store! Can you tell? Why I'm still wearing some pieces of his that I obtained 20 years ago, and counting! Now, that is dressing!    

Tom Ford makes the yummiest Men's Wear, especially formal wear! It is sharp, sharp as a tack! My, my, my!

You just had to bring up biscuits, now didn't you? Do you know how to make them? Well, cut it out! I'm just saying! Actually, I want one! Now!

Spring 2017 Ready-To-Wear is showing!

Hello!

I do my best to keep up with the collections as they come out. Sometimes I'm on top of it, sometimes I'm not. Often times, the collections seem half over before they pick up steam! Well...

I've already clocked in viewing 30+ collections! [One year I'm going to go to New York City, and have a front row seat!] I'm seeing what I term Active Wear; more than anything. You know, stuff that you can wear out and about, as after work gear, as athletic or as weekend wear. It would seem that designers are making a concerted effort to "keep it real," these days. I'm all for that, but I want to experience a sense of style, no matter what I'm doing or what I'm wearing. Know what I mean? Dressing well and seemingly appropriate is a bit of an art... 

The Spring 2017 Ready-To-Wear; herein referred to as RTW, collection that has caught my attention the most is ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo. The fabrics seem to have a certain liquidity. The colors are mostly neutral, enabling easy mixing-and-matching. The cuts are body conscious enough. I would love to have several pieces. I'm a definite layerer. Is that a word? Probably not; but, I want to be able to put piece upon piece spring, summer, winter or fall. Oh, the thrill of creating something not worn before just one more time without having to go to a store. It can be done! Can I get a witness?

I am waiting with anticipation to see what else is new for the spring season. Surprise me someone, surprise me!  

Tom Ford did the thinkable! He showed the Fall 2016 RTW collection closer to fall, and has it available for immediate purchase! What do you know about that? Great fashion! Great timing!

Pull out your utilitarian green! It's here, there and everywhere! This season is probably a good one to get it in jewelry, scarves, bags and shoes. In other words, accessories...

My 'just graduated college' niece collects barbies. One of these days they could be valuable. I hope so. They are iconic...

Until the leaves begin doing their thing, the National Folk Festival in Greensboro looks interesting. This will makes its second year. Wanna go?

Fall may be around the corner, but Christmas is already in the air!

And, I am loving it! Christmas is such a special time of the year! Why not spread the joy, whenever you are ready to that is, up until then? You do not want to wait until December to start preparations, you know? O.K., now that that has been said...

Heard of Sprezzabox, yet? It's a "male subscription service!" For $30.00 a month, a man can receive up to six accessories. The box usually has a tie, socks and pocket squares; but, September's box had a watch. Not bad, not bad at all! In-house designs are part and parcel now, too. In the future, the boxes are expected to become personalized. With the addition of bow ties and suspenders, I may want to get a box every month for me! What a great gift idea!

Walmart's holiday layaway program began today, coinciding with the release of its Top 25 Holiday Toy list! What do you know? Here comes something!

This is one of the best weekends of the year to shop, and save! Your favorite stores will have savings on summer merchandise. I want a supply of peanut butter to last me for the rest of the year! See, I'm not hard to please...

Have you been putting on your deodorant correctly? I guess I haven't. Check this out! Who's worried? Dial Professional Antiperspirant & Deodorant works quite well for me, thank you. I have to wash it off! I get it at Dollar Tree...

We do plenty of sweet potatoes down here in the south. I'm ready for more pumpkin or apple dishes. And you?

I'm not so sure that it pays to rush out and get school clothing or supplies anymore; unless of course, you need a big ticket item such as a computer. Still, bargains can be had for the checking by shopping online and at discount stores. Woman's Day reminds us of this so that we can be savvy about our spending... 

When Sephora speaks, we listen! You may get a Free Mascara Remover Wand, and a Free Urban Decay Matt Liquid Foundation. Also, you may get a Smashbox Palette, a Bag of 8 Fragrance Samples, a Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation Deluxe Sample, a Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Mask Deluxe Sample or 3 Free Samples with a purchase! Now; go get 'em, girls!

Lady Taraji P. Henson has a MAC Collection. The neutrals are niiiiice! The golds and bronzes are complimentary to deeper skin tones, or anyone wanting a warm glow. I like! My idea of good makeup; anymore, is "polished nudes!" So there...

I can appreciate coats, but I'm more of a jacket girl myself! The jackets to have for fall are bomber and leather jackets. Either will carry you through the cold weather season with flair...

Some of the prettiest leather jackets that I have seen anywhere are at Lafayette 148 New York. The materials are sumptuous ; the cuts are classic ; the colors are vibrant. The pink-peach, the lime-green, the royal-blue, and the lemon-yellow are all colors that I would gravitate toward. I know, Lafayette's items are out of the reach of most of us; however, I found a good selection of leather jackets at Wilsons Leather, too. And guess what? They are 40-75% off! It doesn't get much better than that. But if you want to go under the $100 price point, check out HM. They have good pieces at prices that will make you smile...      

Getting away once in a while adds to our quality of life! Why not go to U.S. National Parks for FREE? You still have a couple of days left!

Baby, put your denim on!

Hello!

We've got to have denim:  jackets, jeans, skirts, shorts! For some folk, the rattier, the better! Whatever!

A denim jacket is a must! It will work with everything, from denim on denim to dressier wear. If worn with dressier wear; as in formal wear in this instance, carefully consider:  1)  what it is worn with, and  2)  the color/finish/design of the jacket. One can be pleasantly surprised at what works with what. I kind of like wearing something a little unexpected, every now and again. What can I say? We ladies do what we do!

Finding jeans that work does not have to be the chore that we make it out to be! The key is to find the makings of a trend that you like, and select what works best for you. For instance, torn, AKA, ratty jeans are all over the place these days. Some I like, and some I don't. A pair of vintage jeans is an altogether different matter! The worn in feel and look appeals to me, for most days. Enter Levi's Vintage Clothing Jeans! But; truth be told, I'm more likely to get spic-n-span brand new jeans in various shades of blue, and wear them un-til! Can I get a witness? Hey, do what 'ya gotta do!

I go to the denim skirt rack before I go to any other. There is just something about those skirts! And as far as I'm concerned, denim shorts aren't really denim shorts unless they are cut offs! I'm just saying! Note:  for most of us, a cut half way of the thigh is quite flattering enough! Smile!

Are you aware of Madewell's Denim Forever Tour?  How cool is that? Never, ever throw jeans away says I!

Pssssst! The best time to purchase jeans is not in August! It's in September! O.K., have at it!

Teeing up!

Hello!

Tee shirts are "the go to tops," for most folks attending school. Age makes absolutely no difference! As a baby boomer who likes to #MsMixAndMatchEm along with the best, it is a part of the repertoire! Think:  tee shirt, button-down blouse and denim jacket! But if it happens to be particularly cold, I add a polo shirt and sweater to the mix. It does not get; let alone stay, but so cold here in the Sandhills. Anyways...

If Polyvore is any indicator, tee shirts with graphics; AKA, prints are still IT! Color tee shirts are too. And least I forget to mention it, cropped tees and/or tee shirts that fall at the hips are perennial favorites. Not all schools are thrilled about some designs or accompanying messages. Tread carefully! If in doubt, ask. Might I recommend stripes? They are always in!

Uniglo's Women's Disney Project Graphic Tee has to be the cutest I've seen this season! It only costs $14.90! Get one! Get two!

Maison Margiela's Cotton T-Shirt with Pocket got a lot of likes! It must be the; what I assume to be, red lipstick print! It just kind of make you happy, doesn't it?

Opening Ceremony's Pink Tie-Dye T-Shirt provides a nice pop of color; not to mention, interest too!

So tell me now; whaccha gonna wear, with that denim or bomber jacket? You are going to see and be seen! Speaking of which...

Have you seen this lady getting a haircut? What a hoot! But who hasn't sectioned off the hair, getting it as straight as possible, before hacking away? This made my day! The results couldn't get any better! I wish mine had...

If you haven't gotten a vacation in yet, the cheapest week to travel this summer experiment results may get you moving! I've been telling my extended family all along that the best time to have a family reunion is the July 4th, the Memorial Day or the Labor Day weekend! Will they or won't they? Time will tell!

School bells will be ringing!

Hello!

Get your sneakers game on!

From all appearances, sneakers for the Academic School Year 2016-2017 will have...

1)  White bottoms.

2)  White, tan, black or bold color tops; mostly, bold color tops.

3)  A mix of white, bold color and/or patterned tops.

4)  A platform heel.

It's not about just whites anymore, and I'm tickled! With such an array of sneakers to select from, we can have a pair for every day of the week; not to mention, every occasion! Oh dear, I've gone and said it now! Hold your wallets a little bit closer, parents!

I'm very partial to Miu Miu's cap toe sneakers. Polyvore has a good selection. Oh, boy!

The Olympic Games Rio 2016 are a reminder to get in and stay in shape. Walking works for me, but I'm about to launch out into bicycling too. That may require a little something, something extra! Well...

July 2016 was so hot, I trust that your whites are holding up. Now is a good time to replenish the stash...

I'm hun-gry! All that I've had to eat so far today is iced tea flavored with watermelon cubes; it's yummy, two slices of buttered cinnamon toast, a peach and a plum. I'm all for moderation; but, honestly! What do you suggest?

More banana leaves, please!

Hello!

Banana leaves are bringing this hot and humid summer to life, wouldn't you say? Oh; Dolce & Gabbana, you shouldn't have! How bright! How bold! How fun! Let's go!

Bridal or other formal, church, etc.

Girl's night out, date night, etc, 

Shopping, running errands, etc.

Now picture this:  me, banana leaves, the rest of the summer, next summer. The summer after that? Perhaps. Thanks, DG!

It's a little too hot for lipstick, to me anyways! But; yes, I will raise a tube to my lips just like any other woman! Once I tried Lipstick Queen, I was hooked! The Frog Prince Lip Gloss looks promising. Hmmmm. Stocking stuffer. Definitely...

Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor are already accessorizing; y-o-u, for the holidays! I haven't seen a Christmas sweater that I have liked in a while; to be honest, but that's not to say that I won't. I am adding that to my To Do List. Meanwhile, lookey, look, look! The faux fur jacket is a grrrrreat shade of green. It is bright, and it is cozy...

I've got watermelon on the mind! How many ways can you eat watermelon? Let me count the ways!

Going braless?

Hello!

Some Millennials are! I doubt they would want to make it a habit. A sense of aesthetics will kick in, 100 degrees or not! One wants to feel, and look good. Well thought out pieces make it possible. Undergarments are so much more comfortable than they used to be. Aren't you glad?

I ran across Phylyda, a swimwear line by Lydia Maurer this week. I like the 'long line' tops (as I like to call them), and 'the skirt' bottoms. How incredibly stylish! Add a pair of gladiators, and I am off! Oh me, oh my!

The Neiman Marcus Fall Preview Report is in! I never thought I would appreciate this and other online catalogs and magazines as much as I do, but gracious sakes alive, I do! I really do! They are steadily gaining momentum! Alright, now!

The Outnet is having a clearance sale on fall items! Oh, my goodness! You heard it here second! 

I had grits for breakfast, this morning! Our family usually gets Quaker. I enjoy mine with pepper, butter and parmesan cheese. No standing over a hot stove for me! The microwave cooks it just as well...
