Or; at the least, department store signature bags! I look for them whenever going into an establishment. I tired of brown paper bags long before they became hard to find. And truth be told, plastic bags try my patience. Most aren't made well, and do good to get you out to the car. The signature bags do not have to scream, "I came from such and such a store!" They just need to be a viable option. I enjoy mixing them up with every day bags. Some things are worth it...  

I had no idea that Mark Twain invented adjustable/removable straps! Did you? We live and we learn...

Right there next to the diamond girl, that is! Diamonds are but one of a girl's best friends! "Accessories are a girl's best friend," in my estimation! [Where would us ladies be without them?] And; yes, you can quote that!

A long row or several rows of pearls will work with any and every outfit! Aren't you glad that you can get the real deal or even imitations, for such a good price? And let's not even talk about the earrings, studs or otherwise, and the bracelets. #MixandMatchEm I say, for a look that is all yours! I have! I do! I will!

Pearls or imitation pearls on clothing or shoes has been a bit of trend this year, especially on jeans. It's rather clever, if you ask me. It's like providing instant credibility; not to mention, a fun factor to an outfit. Who do you know that would have done that ten years or so ago and counting? O.K., so  you know of half a handful. I rest my case...

Sometimes we ladies get too hung up on sizing! What difference does it make, really? Either your clothing fits well, or it doesn't! I chuckle when I hear someone say that they wear a particular size. Oh, sure they do! It's more like the size before the selected number and the size after the selected number too! It is what it is! Let's just do our thing, ladies! As I've said a time or two, "Feel good, look good, be good!"  The best you know how, anyways...

I'm thinking about the after Christmas sales, already! Admit it, you are too! Sometimes the discounts can be better than those on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday. There is always a balancing act, however. If you can get what you want at the price point that you want before Christmas, by all means do. On the other hand, if you figure that you can not get what you want at the price point that you want until after Christmas, wait. As much as I like a sale, it has occurred to me that even if full price is paid for something, if it is kept and worn for 5, 10, 15 or 20+ years, it is worth it. I do have clothing that I have had for over 20 years and am still able to wear. The key is to purchase well. Get what will not appear to be outdated later on down the road, what you will want to wear, and what works well with other things. No matter which way you slice it, some things we are more willing to pay top dollar for than others. Tracking what one wants to add to build a wardrobe and is willing to spend on an annual basis helps to bring it all together. Some outfits that I have gotten the most compliments on are the ones that I have use a bit of creativity to put together to begin with. So can you...

And it's a nice shade of purple, at that. It's not too light, and it's not too dark. It does remind one of "shades of the night!"

After yesterday's announcement, I immediately went online and began to look for purple accessories; namely, hats and shoes. There was not as many to choose from as I would have liked. I looked for purple jewelry, next. Ditto! I imagine this will not be the state of affairs too much longer, especially come fall. Deep purples are a fall/winter staple more often than not. One of my favorite items of purple clothing was a sweater dress that I wore to my 10th high school reunion. I have no idea what happened to it. I also wore a purple with green trim suit to my 15th high school reunion. This; mind you, was when almost everyone else was wearing white and black or black. I wanted something rich and a bit intriguing, if you will. Purple fit the bill. I still have the purple with green trim suit, and it looks pretty good too. The real challenge; of course, is getting that desired upon fit. I took the shoulder pads out of it eons ago. I have every intention of whipping it out, and wearing it again in 2018. Maybe with green pumps, maybe with purple pumps. Or then and again, maybe with silver or even rose gold pumps. We'll see. I am so glad that I kept it. It was always one of my favorite suits. Now about seeing more purple accessories, I reckon I will just have to keep on looking. Oh, well. It never pays to wait until you want or need something to begin looking for it. That; folks, is a life lesson learned...   

As you know, I thoroughly enjoy Christmas stockings. Well, Martha Stewart sent out some of the nicest designs in a newsletter this week that I have seen in a long time. The ones that caught my attention was "the sweater stockings!"

They are made from, but what else, sweaters! How delightful! I may not make any this year, but by gosh, I sure will next year. Mmmmm...

The Christmas Tree at The Biltmore Estates has to be one of the most beautiful in the world! You can ooh and aah, now!

Free Shipping Day is seven (7) days away! It is a good time to order things online for Christmas.  Practically everyone offers this service. Go for it!

If you really want some tasty Christmas desserts, look no further than Southern Living. I am itching to try the Italian Cream Cake recipe. It looks yum, yum, yummy!

Prince Harry & Ms. Markle are slated to say I DO!

And, I am loving it! They are a-dor-a-ble, together! They have 151 days or 21 weeks and 4 days; give or take some, to prepare. May is my birth month! What a fine time to have a wedding!

It goes without saying, we are all wondering what type of gown Ms. Markle will wear. Meghan's Mirror should give us a hint. It will be elegant, but "chic!" I can't wait to see it. She knows what she likes, and she wears clothing well. She makes dressing look effortless... 

Holiday shopping is in full swing! Some days are better for shopping than others. I love a good deal,  don't you? Besides, why be wasteful? Prudent is my middle name! Evenso, No scrooges allowed! Harrumph!

I made a pumpkin pudding; rather than, a pumpkin pound cake for a Thanksgiving holiday gathering. It was scrumptious; if I must say so, myself! I learned through trial and error that one of the best ways to get "the full seasonal flavor" of pumpkins (and/or sweet potatoes) is to skip the boiling phase altogether. Instead:  slice, wash, puree, mix, cook! What a time saver. And know this. The Blendtec can NOT be beat. It gets the job done...

If you are going to get an Apple product, get it on Black Friday!

Or so says Kyle James of Rather Be Shopping! Apple products do NOT go on sale all that often. If you want an Apple iPhone X, November 22nd or thereabouts may be the time to score one. Look for the discounts! "Here's to looking at you, kid!" 

There are good products at all price points. When it comes to jewelry, I rarely look much farther than Kenneth Jay Lane. They seem to have their hand on the pulse of good, stylish and reasonably priced accessories for women. [Are their products collectibles, yet? Well; if they are not, they should be!] As does Steve Madden when it come to shoes. You can believe they are on it! Congratulations; Steve Madden, for being named Company of the Year! Keep it coming, keep it coming!

You do not have to be 65 or older to score Senior Citizens' discounts, thank goodness! And we baby-boomers are loving it! We're young enough "to tweet," and old enough to eat corn bread without getting choked! Well, most of us! Anyways, be sure and pair the Black Friday sales savings (which can usually be found throughout Thanksgiving Day Week) with regular Senior Citizen discounts where appropriate for the ultimate in savings! Can do!

Tiffany has opened the Blue Box Cafe! Oh; Tiffany, you should have! Thaaaaank you!

It does a heart good to see that stockings are good for something other than the trash heap, once they are ruined! If you are like me, that doesn't take very long either. Stockings are now being made of; get this, recycled material! This, by Swedish Stockings! Nice! Way to go! Support them; folks, if you can. Thaaaaank you!

Many seem to think that if you like to read, you can write. Well, I have done my share of reading. I completed two Wanda Brunstetter books last night! The English Son, and The Missing Will. I would have read the entire The Amish Millionaire series if I had had it on hand! I enjoy Amish novels. That may come from living in the Shenandoah Valley umpteen years, and being exposed to the Mennonite way of life. It may have come from living across the field from a farmer who emigrated from South Carolina to North Carolina while in elementary, junior high and high school as well. I cropped, strung and hung tobacco during the summer months. [More like, I passed the sticks of tobacco to be hung. But, you get my drift.] I picked cotton, okra, peas, cucumbers and butter beans too. And who didn't eat the heart of watermelons right smack dab in the middle of the patch back then? The most remarkable thing of all is that I read Harlequin Romances like you would not believe! I don't now, not anymore. They have lost their pureness, unfortunately. Un-for-tu-nate-ly! I'm going to reserve the rest of The Amish Millionaire series today...

Get your "stocking stuffing" on!

Hello!

Giving and receiving Christmas stockings is such fun! And economical too, most of the time! Harrumph, harrumph!

Christmas stockings can be made from nearly any material that you can think of. Besides that, they can be made from newly minted fabric, or favorite pieces of clothing. They can be small, or large. Small seems to be the most intriguing. I wonder why?

Christmas stockings can be made by hand, or with a sewing machine. They can be purchased; of course, but why not make them? It's easy enough. And gifts from the heart are the most meaningful; if not, the most memorable. I still have a couple of Christmas gifts that were made for me years ago tucked away in a hat box. I pull them out every once in a while to admire them. I reckon I will take them with me when I obtain a new residence. Oh, yes! I've got my heart set on 'a downtown place,' for a little contemporary, urban living. A place in the city. A place in the country. Now that is really living, wouldn't you say? I can always go to the beach or the mountains when I get 'the feeling...'

What to put in them there stockings? Well, it all depends on whom the stockings are for. It is always a good idea to include items unique to the persons, or that no one else will likely think of. That might require detective work. You are up to the task. The look on the recipients faces will be worth it...

Now; and I do mean now, is a grrrrreat time to shop for stocking stuffers! [You know, as in September and October! Yeah, I know. September is gone, and October is moving right along!] IF you wait until the official start of  "the holiday season," you may NOT find what you are looking for. Moreover, you could pay more than you have to. And speaking of which, shopping for holiday deals may not be all that it is cracked up to be any more anyways. Yes, it's true. You can find something on sale every month of the year. Why, you can find something on sale every day of the year! I like to pick up things for the holidays throughout the year, myself. At the least, I like to know what it is that I am going to pick up when I do go and pick them up. It makes life easier all the way around. The less hassle, the less stress. Some have plenty enough to be concerned about as it is...

I received a free gift from Lady Cherie (the juice lady), this morning! It contained three of the HeartMath Company's Emotional Support Care Package tools. It has been a challenging second half of the year in parts of our nation. We need to be mindful of taking care of ourselves as we navigate what comes our way. Please; do, share...

Someone needs to pick up a rake, and start raking up some of that lovely cinnamon colored pine straw that is on a free fall as if late. That would be me. Sign...

The Wedding Shop

Brides to be must be giddy! Imagine finding 'a dream gown' for a fraction of the cost, at T.J.Maxx in:  The Wedding Shop! Yeah! 

The bridal gowns top off at $1,000! The bridesmaid dresses top off at $500! The mother of the bride dresses top off at $500! And based on what I'm seeing, you can get a whole lot of style for the money! Of course you do not want to wait until the last minute to begin looking. I'm just saying...

This new venture got me to thinking. I'm looking for a pair of royal blue earrings + a pair of royal blue suede tie-around-the-ankle sandals to go with the royal blue skirt that I already have to wear to 'the reunion' later on this month. This may be the place to get it; unless of course, you have a better idea! Uh, huh. Just wondering...

Mr. Ralph "worked it," at his recent Autumn 2017 fashion show! What an experience it must have been, for those who were able to get tickets. I liked the clothes, but the cars were running a close second! Man!    

I haven't put color in my hair in a while, but I'm ready now. Color Melting is what I had in mind, but I just didn't know what to call it. We have a Paul Mitchell The School, here. Watch out; Fayetteville, here we come!

Some of the best jewelry that I have ever had came from an antique shop! You will be amazed at what you can find. No hum drumming here!

 How about that! Technology will continue to drive change. Adapters take all!

There is no escaping the spanx! I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. If I'm not where I want to be when "the reunion" rolls around, I will wear it. It doesn't squeeze the life out of me, fortunately. I made sure of that. I got it two sizes too large. Why do they make them so small to begin with? If you are not careful, you will look more like a sausage with one on than with one off! I do declare! I want to be able to breathe. I walk plenty. I need to bike, or something. Or something...  

Clay masks are; for all intent and purposes, mud! Harrumph! I've tried a many a mask, but ultimately I always go back to the mud; ooooops, clay mask. It is what it is...

Saks knows how to have an anniversary sale

Do! They! Ever! What a 10th Anniversary Sale! And, it is still going on. And will be, for quite some time. It would be near impossible to not find something to take home. This is; after all, the shoe store that has "its own zip code!" The question is, Can our credit or debit cards handle it? Harrumph! I'm looking for the Gianvitto Rossi Suede Lace-Up Sandals in blue myself to wear to an upcoming class reunion. I like to have my toes out, if I can. Here it doesn't really get cold until clear near November. It's a good bet...

Why always wait until the day of to decide what to wear, no matter the style? You can get out of the door that much faster. Planning what to wear by the week; or at the least, a couple of days in advance translates into good wardrobe sense, period. Some of us sleep right through an alarm clock going off. And, I ain't saying who either. It couldn't possibly be me. I don't own an alarm clock. Early to bed, early to rise...

Well, Prince has a color. Purple; but, of course! Of course...

Shopping is getting more intriguing by the minute; especially, if you are into electronics and quite the consumer. Voice activated shopping has taken on a whole new urgency, with the recent partnership of Walmart & Google. It's greatest value as I see it, is not having to go into the store for every little thing. Mmmmm...

Amazon is speeding up shopping

I can see why folks wanted Instant Pickup yesterdiddy! They can order online, they can pay online, and they can pick 'em up almost as fast as they can do either! What's not to like? The desire to pass even that small task on to someone else, I reckon...

August is moving right along, and some things really are less expensive now than at other times, especially if you tally up the college discounts too. That's what I'm talking about!

In this humid, hot weather nothing but a ponytail or braids will do! Khloe's got that right!

Don't know if I will be watching the eclipse or not come Monday, but you be careful now, hear?

More color, please!

Hello!

Royal blue, purple and kelly green are the more obvious choices for color when it comes to fall attire. Yes, I do say so! They give such life to cool, if not cold days. Why, they make me want to sing! They are definitely not the usual navy, brown and black. They will do, but why do when you can do more than just do? Where would I be without color? Somewhere; for sure, but grudgingly so...

Colors with even more life are on the horizon for fall! Translate that as, colors with some sunshine behind them! That makes me just plain gleeful!

If it's not gonna be red clothing in the months to come, it's gonna be red accessories, anyhow! It's hip to be in red! Why if I didn't like fuchsia so much, I would be right on that red bandwagon! As it is, I think I will mix it up. Red. Fuchsia. Fuchsia. Red. Mmmmm, huh...

Some are saying that we are going to have cooler than usual August days, this year. Bring it on! I can hardly wait. Brisk days. Rich, vibrant colors. Make my season!

A picture is worth more words than I care to mention sometimes!

Imagine the surprise I felt at seeing me; the one walking, on the front page of Saturday morning's newspaper. And at the crack of dawn, at that! Sheesh! Well, that is when I go out to get the paper. "The glory" is going to go! It came, courtesy of Holiday 2016. And here it is, time to be thinking about Holiday 2017. I tell you the truth. The wheels just keep on turning...

Color really is the story of life! At least, an interesting life. Bring more of it, for fall!

Ready for Back to School? You may as well be! It's here, and it is going to be robust, apparently. Good, good for us. A healthy economy requires some spending. Besides, I could use a few things...

It has been several years, but I had a great experience at the J.C.Penney Styling Salon. I continued to go until 'the stylist' left. She was good! I believe I will check it out again, although the new and improved The Salon by InStyle may be a while in triggering down here to us...

What a hoot! Country Living is on to us! Maybe we need to get out more...

I spend way too much time thinking about food

Hello!

And it isn't doing a thing for my waistline! And you know what? Today, I don't care. It's Mac & Cheese Day! Don't you just love all of these national holidays? I do, if it involves food. Why, yesterday was Pecan Pie Day. And the day before that was French Fry Day. We are on a roll! I didn't have french fries, I didn't have pecan pie, and I probably won't have mac & cheese. I can dream. It's too hot to cook much folks, and I am not about to spend a small fortune on takeout. Been there, done that.  But I tell you what, McDonald's fries, Whole Foods' pecan pies (not to mention brownies), and Bojangle's mac & cheese are all of that and some. I wonder what days it will be next week? Hmmmmm...     

On my daily trek into town, I had to swat off not one but two mosquitoes! Those pests! UGH! It could be worse I reckon, given the amount of rain the Sandhills has had since Hurricane Matthew. It seems as if when we get rain this summer, we get rain. A nice 24-hour cold snap would take care of anything wanting to land and bite, but that won't be happening for another three months or so. So I'll trudge along in long sleeves, at least until I get indoors where I will kindly roll them up. Momentarily, that is. I can get cold in air conditioning! Thus, the sweater tossed over the shoulders. Sleeves. Sweaters. In this heat? Well, you have got to do what you have got to do. I have to prepare for the outside, and the inside. But, back to the heat. In this heat and humidity, I could melt or something. Or something? Hardly. This #CountryChicCityChic ain't having it! None. Nada. Oh, the joys of being raised in the South! I wouldn't have it any other way...

Nordstrom's is having a sale! July is a great month to snap up things for the rest of the summer, for fall, and for Christmas too. Yeah, Christmas. I just had to go and bring it up. This year is moving along about as fast as I can eat a small tube of Bojangle's Mac & Cheese, and a mosquito can land on my arm and say "Mmmmmm, good!" I am not a fan of headaches, myself. No need in intentionally having one...

Macy's; like most stores, are gearing up for the holidays as we speak. Exactly how much the self-service model will be put into practice this year remains to be seen. I kind of like the idea of being able to zip in and zip out of a store without too much hassle. Of course, I usually know what I am looking for. Someone who doesn't, and who is looking for ideas might not be so thrilled. There is a middle ground. Macy's will find it...

Manolo Blahnik is such an artist! But then and again, style (and fashion might I add) is an "art and a science!" Looking good does not just happen! And don't we just know it!

It is hot!

Hello!

A heat advisory is on for today until 6:00 P.M. here in the Sandhills of North Carolina! We will take some sweet tea any which way we can get it! Today. Tomorrow. Next week. Next month. The rest of the summer. The rest of the year. Next year. Forever...

HSN + QVC has got to equate to plenty of sales! Both are such fun places to shop. And off they soar, way out into the stratosphere, somewheres or another! We certainly hope so...  

I know that you do not need me to remind you, but July is an excellent time to get bargains galore! They don't call it Christmas in July for nothing! Now go and get busy...

S'mores trail mix, anyone? You may as well have some. I can't think of anything better to eat along the side of all of that sweet tea anyways...

To buy nothing is a pretty tall order for most folks, but all of us can see to it that things no longer wanted or useful get into the hands of people who see the value of them. It kind of makes 'ya feel warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it? A great project...

I am trying so hard to kick the sweet tea habit! Let me tell you, it ain't easy! The South and sweet tea go together like peanut butter and banana sandwiches! I am determined to do this thing, so help me. Sign...

All forces to be reckoned with!

Speaking of which, Amazon must be giddy right about now! Being able to try on clothing purchased online before you buy is another one of those seismic shifts in retail. It does make shopping that much more of a cinch. "What's next?" Mmmmm...

Walmart has fashion on their minds too, you know. Let's just do the shuffle!

Rihanna! Rihanna! Rihanna! If anyone has the capability of crossing over from music to fashion; if she wanna, it is she! The PVCs + stones are trending, in my book!

Wedding Season is always an exciting time of the year. And most of us are fortunate enough to know at least one person getting married over the summer. Being a memorable bride is what it's all about, if you ask me! This bride to be is doing it, and doing it well! Yup, the iconic black and white suits! Go, girl!

There is something to be said about wearing a work uniform! One does not have to wear the exact same thing every day; but, a given way of dressing can be a bonus no matter the occupation. We've all gotten so accustomed to throwing on something and going, so much so, I recently told  my mom that whatever she wore to her grandson's high school graduation earlier this month would probably look great. She is from the era where you dress as well as you can. Amusingly, she dresses better than most people my age! She doesn't dress old, per se. And, she certainly doesn't try to dress as if she is 25. She just knows what looks good on her. We could learn a thing or two from her. Speaking of which, you must check out Advanced Style! The ladies and gentlemen are truly amazing in their approach to fashion and style. 'Ya gotta love it!

Keep this up, and we'll all have the skin of a baby's bottom!
