The 'Color of the Year 2019' is?!!!

Hello!

It depends on whom you ask! Everyone's got one! I'm laughing!

If you ask Behr, it is Blueprint S470-5!

If you ask Benjamin Moore, it is Metropolitan AF-690!

If you ask PPG Paints, it is Night Watch PPG1145-7!

If you ask Sherwin-Williams, it is Cavern Clay SW 7701!

If you ask Valspar Paint, it is Twilight Mist, Lime Mousse, Spring Squash, Seattle Haze, Martinique Dawn, Orange Slice, Wishing Well, Metropolis Lilac, Angelic Blue, Blushing Bride, Green Water, Homey Cream! Yeah; 12, not 1!

And then of course, there is Pantone who has a color palette! I'm rooting for Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral. I am wearing a 20+ year old Lynn Greene for Richard Neal Ltd 75% Wool 25% Nylon jacket in that exact same color. I have worn it over and over and over again. Other folks seem to enjoy seeing me wear it as much as I enjoy wearing it. I am wearing it for the last winter, unfortunately. I must find another. It is starting to look worn, and not in a good way either! The color is so...festive! And no, I do not look like a walking pumpkin! I just look 'lit up!' 

I tend to go with Pantone when it comes to the 'Color of the Year.' The Pantone 'Color of the Year 2019' will be announced in a webinar Friday, December 7th. I can't wait! I'm already looking at  accessories and clothing in "salmon," aka, coral! I can hope, can't I?

Saks Holiday 2018

Hello!

The Saks Holiday 2018 catalog is ooooout! It came out Wednesday...

I do not feel that I have enjoyed the holidays until I have:  1)  gone through major department store catalogs, or  2)  browsed the windows. The Saks Fifth Avenue store Holiday Window Unveiling is November 19th, 7:00 P.M., EST.  It can be viewed online same as the catalog. Things are getting better all the time, aren't they?

Some of the price tags are steep. Others are what you would expect. Irregardless, there is always something somewhere similar "in our price range!" Now is the time to look...

Although I am curious to see what the holiday clothing styles will be, I am just as curious about the accessories and makeup. Accessories and makeup can make or break an outfit more so than the type of outfit worn or the amount spent on it...

Red is the color most are drawn to. There is also gold, and silver. And not necessarily in that order! Whatever your favorite colors are; I say, "Wear (or decorate in) them!"   

Here's what I like, without a shadow of a doubt...

1)  The Christian Louboutin So Kate Booty! They are kicking! I noticed them earlier during the month elsewhere...

2)  The Dior Inclusion sunglasses! What else would one expect of me? Black diamonds are as cool as cool can be! I can see the two together...

3)  The Cult Gaia small acrylic Ark bag in clear! I've gotta have one! Either that or their long wooden earrings which are not in the catalog...

4)  The Kiehl's Mask Moments Holiday Gift set! I have yet to try a Kiehl's product! They come highly recommended. I do like good masks...

Got it? I will be checking my stocking December 24th!

Well dressed is; uh, well dressed...

Hello!

And it doesn't matter what your pedigree (or budget) is!

My favorite thing to do is to dress as well as I can with what I've got, be that as it may! Who wants to go shopping every single time a function comes up? Don't answer that! The outfits which call for a bit of wherewithal are often the ones that get the most compliments. Figures, huh?

I go there because celebrities; bless their hearts, are not the only ones who can dress well! Most of them manage to get it together for Red Carpet events, with the assistance of a stylist. How many of us have that luxury? Or for that matter, even want one? Some of us do, but not all. Wearing what is flattering irregardless of the trends is the name of the game! 

Every day dressing has become too casual. It seems as if it is a little too easy to put on whatever. One does not have to dress expensively, or have a ton of clothes to look nice. It means, more than anything, giving thought as to how to pull it all together. Surely, we can do that...

I really wish someone would "hide the leggings!" UGH! Forgive me for saying so, but few people wear them well. They try, they really do, but they just don't. Leggings are not; and I repeat, not the easiest things to wear. The proportion of the top to the bottom is everything. If you miss that, you miss, period...

If one really wants a streamlined look, and who doesn't want one from time to time, might I suggest riding pants? They are so worth it. Don't want to go there? Opt for a good pair of skinny jeans. They have sold well for a reason...

Justin Timberlake has a clothing line in partnership with Levi's. It's called Justin Timberlake Fresh Leaves. It is a casual, laid back look. It is not sloppy. I  especially like Levi's [guy] sneakers. They are reasonably priced, and well made. They are able to handle my outdoor treks, more than any other shoe that I have tried. That's definitely something to crow about...

You can create clothing from a lot of different types of materials. Everlane has created an outerwear collection made of recycled plastic. How cool is that?

How to tie a scarf

Hello!

I adore scarves! Irregardless of the size or shape, I will find a way to tie it! You will too...

Some of the prettiest and most reasonably priced scarves that I have yet to see just happen to be Calvin Klein scarves. I received one as a gift, and have worn it with nearly everything. I have it on right now, as a matter of fact. It is like a painting! It is black, purple, royal blue, salmon, and cream. I haven't looked back since...

As far as I am concerned the pencil skirt is IT! Work it; sister-friends, work it!

Red speaks, doesn't it? Pull it out, and dust it off! Christmas is less than 90 days away!

Intermittent fasting

Hello!

Health and healing just got a whole lot better, thanks to intermittent fasting! Who doesn't want to live a long, healthy, vibrant life? The best time to figure it all out is now!

I feel more energized when I fast. I like to fast at least one day a week. I try to not eat too late, either. I am able to wake up much more refreshed, feeling and looking better...

Although I am an early bird by nature, I had to learn to eat earlier during the day. Having breakfast was just not my favorite thing to do. I have even forgotten to eat throughout the course of a day, on the rare occasion. Unbelievable! Without making a concerted effort to do otherwise, I lean toward brunch as the first meal of the day. It is not too early, and it not too late. I still have memories of having P.E. after lunch in high school. Not a good combination...

I like a lot of fruit and vegetables (raw or lightly cooked), boiled eggs, raisins, peanut butter or nuts and such. I have been known to eat left over vegetables for the first meal of the day. I do not want to be caught without energy, if I should need to get in a hurry quick. Oh; yeah, I like dessert a lot too. But, we won't talk about that... 

In summary, the less you eat the less hungry you will feel. Believe me, we will not wither away!

Spring Ready-To-Wear 2019 shows are coming to a crawl

Fashion shows are; without a doubt, fascinating!

I don't have a favorite Spring Ready-To-Wear 2019 show, as of right now. The Sandhills are recovering from Hurricane Florence. I will get there!

Before Hurricane Florence, I imagine folks were upbeat about Christmas shopping. Now? Maybe, maybe not. Evenso, some holiday shopping days are better than others. Think, and plan accordingly...

Folks in my house have certainly upped the ante when it comes to shopping at Amazon! Some buys are what they seem, and some are not. "Know 'the respective price points!' "

Cross training is; intuitively speaking, the better workout I'm willing to go out on a limb and agree with. Hurricane Florence reminded me that I need to learn to swim! It's on my bucket list...

I do know this! Western wear is hot for fall! I always did think it was cool as all get out! Bring it on!

I haven't tried any Fenty Beauty products yet, but the range of colors is awe inspiring!

Aretha Franklin was 'the woman in red'

Hello!

I'd never met Aretha Franklin, but she had to have been one sassy lady! She wore a red dress and shoes, at Tuesday's public viewing! I loved it! It perfectly captured who she was! Vibrant! Bold! Creative! We will miss seeing her comings and goings, but we will sing a long to her music now more than ever before...

Most of us will attend her one last gala, via television or the internet, tomorrow. The musical tribute and funeral service will have the who's who in everything from arts and entertainment to civics and government in attendance. But just as promising will be Think: A Tribute to The Queen of Soul exhibition. It will run from September 21, 2018 to January 21, 2019 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. It is so befitting! I imagine there will be even more post-humorous acknowledgments and accolades in the days, weeks, months, and years to come...

Thank you so much for the music, Aretha! You were; in the urban vernacular, fierce!

Hydrogen peroxide, AND red apple cider vinegar?

Hello!

Yes, and yes!

My skin takes a beating during the summer!!!

I walk 5-12 miles, at least four times a week. I cover up. Quite a bit, actually. I carry an umbrella for use during the afternoons, and evenings. I don a hat, without fail. I wear loose, long sleeve cotton shirts over tank or short sleeve cotton tops. I show my ankles, every so often...

I have been walking since my Cat-U days. I did not play sports in high school, or college. I wanted to stay in shape, and I enjoy the outdoors...

There was a time when I did not cover up. I just hit the pavement! Along the way, it occurred to me that I might regret it. As I hit the 40's, I began to notice age spots. Not so much on the face, as on the inside of the arms. Unbelievable!!! The skin on my face did began to turn over slower, though. The old stand by scrub of baking soda + a mild cleanser started to irritate. When my skin is at its best; believe me when I say, I go through no less than 5 - 7 steps of this, that or the other - almost daily! Hey, it is what it is! Regular readers of this blog know that a face scrub of grits + H2O and/or a mild cleanser smooths the face; mine in particular, removing some of the old skin. Still, I found myself needing something more. I have always been a huge fan of apple cider vinegar and its multiple uses. I knew instinctively that 3% hydrogen peroxide would be good, and less formidable than glycolic acid, salicylic acid or both. I spritz 1/2 to 1/2 on a moist face, quickly adding honey. My skin appears tighter, has a glow and the tone is gradually evening up. I really needed that along the jaw line...

I am happy with the results. I think you might be too. I would caution you; however, to play with the proportions. One-half and 1/2 might be irritating to some. This is what I call "real beauty in real time!"

I am having a blast wearing white! I have every intention of wearing it after Labor Day! Just keep on, mixing it up and mixing it up!

Now is the time to shop, and save!

It's National Watermelon Day, but good watermelons are hard to come by.

Hello!

That; it, is!

I grew up working on the farm that used to be across the field from the home place during the summers. The proprietor; Mr. Ed Wright, raised hogs. He also grew tobacco, cotton and an assortment of vegetables. When the temperatures soared and the heat became swelteringly hot, we would go to the watermelon patch. Nothing lifted our spirits like splitting a watermelon open, and eating the heart! There, in the middle of the field! The watermelons were cooler than you would think, and sweet too...

Fast forward to 2018. Go to almost any grocery store. Check the boxes outside the store, or the produce aisles inside the store. What are you likely to find? A semi-sweet; if that - watermelon, once you get it home. What a pity, if you want to dive right in! But the watermelon can be put to good use, if juiced and refrigerated. It will begin to get sweeter, and it will thicken - over time. Not only is it refreshing to drink, it makes a great face mask...

I want the watermelons of old! What have they done to them? I know! I know! I know! The best bet is to get home grown watermelons, if you can. If you know of one or two round about; give me a holler, why don't you?

Christmas in July

Hello!

I believe! In Christmas in July! Tremendously! Chalk it up to moonlighting in women's fashion pert near every weekend of my life, for ten years running! And yes; it is true, all of you non-southern born and raised folks owe such a fine tradition to those of us who were! You are welcome...

Why wait until the last minute to begin making holiday preparations, anyways? You don't have to! It can be stress-ful, otherwise! Besides, it might cost 'ya! In true enjoyment of the season! In time, and convenience! In selection, and dollars! I'm just saying! 

January and July are the two best times of the year for sales; traditionally, as we all know. That which had not previously moved before is now much more likely to move! Off the shelves, that is! It's out with "the currently being used" and/or 'old,' and in with 'the new,' in this case, fall!

Undoubtedly, it is the time to strategize too, shall we say! If you did not know how to mix-and-match warm weather gear with cool weather gear for your idea of all season wear, you will get a quick tutorial! The weather can be all over the map! Coordinate away; dears, coordinate away!

And least I forget to say so, check out the fashion shows ; especially the 2019 Resort and Bridal, that way you will look your very best while attending umpteen holiday events! Looking well put together is always in!

Hello!

Kroger is about more than just food! It's a good thing, too! It's new clothing line; Dip, is common sense dressing for the entire family! Add some cool, unique, individual accessories and you are on! No fuss, no muss! Sometimes, that is just what the doctor orders! Yes!

The sun can do a number on the hair when it is hot outside! Add sweat and chlorine to the mix, and Oh, boy! A heat protection spray is recommended! Makes sense to me!

A lady is brave to even begin to think about wearing foundation in 90+ degree weather! Makeup artists declare that it can be done, nevertheless! But; as for me, myself and I, we will stick to tinted moisturizer or bronzer! I'm just saying!

Hello!

July 4th, or there about, is an excellent time tooooo:  shop!

I know, it's hot outside, but guess what? Summer clothing is being shuffled to the side for fall clothing! 'Ya gotta love it! It's still warm outside! As a matter of fact, we've had some of the warmest days of the year the last seven (7) days! Sweat, sweat, sweat! But while you are sweating, get thee to your favorite stores! Bloomingdale's! Neiman Marcus! Nordstrom! Macy's! Saks Fifth Avenue! The bargains are unbelievable! There is no reason to not get prepared for the rest of the year! Need I say more? No!

I'm having a ton of fun wearing summer whites; skirts and pants, in particular! It is true! Whites in lighter fabrics are just cooler! Besides, you look breezier, know what I mean? And what doesn't go with white? Not a thing!

I got tickled over the anti-chafing bands! If you wear dresses or skirts in this heat, you can't help but sweat all over, no matter your size! I've been wearing a loose Spanx-like undie with my long, white skirts and have kept surprisingly cool. Loose is key, I reckon...

It is not a trend for me. It is about a desire to look pulled together, and to be comfortable while on the move. Unlike most folks, I don't drive in to town. I walk in to town...

We enjoy our sneakers, don't we? But it has only been within the last few years that sneakers have become; well, much more stylish! Hallelujah!

The trick to wearing sneakers with dresses or skirts well is quite simple, really. Try wearing them with something unexpected. It could be in the color, fabric, or adornment. Wedding sneakers are a cool option, as such. They take an outfit from athleisure or active wear to business or business casual, in an instant! I like the summer whites, too. They just work! Consider it all in a day's work!

Men are appreciative of sneakers with pizzazz, too! The Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin Spring 2019 Collections are ample evidence! The dad sneakers are ; uh, ugly! Oh, well! Each to his or her own!

Today is National Flip-Flop Day!

My favorite sneakers for 'the summer' are "the white ones!" They just brighten up any outfit to the nth degree! Shucks, I've taken to wearing white, and more white this summer! Yeah, now...

If ever I've been tempted to wear jeans above the ankles, it's during warm weather! I know, I know! That's just my 'once in a while persnickety self' kicking in! Whatever the denim style, have fun with color! If not color ones, then the white ones! I'm just saying! But, speaking of denim...

Our thoughts are with The Kate Spade Family. It is never easy to lose a loved one. Kate lives on, not only in our hearts, but also in her handbags, clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, home, and gift items...

'It is all about the Kate Spade ear studs for me!' There is always the most fabulous array! And the price point can not be beat! I can live on the ear studs, literally! I would NOT have to have any other earrings, ever! When I styled at Polyvore, I quickly discovered that no matter what I was trying to put together, I could rely on them their studs! Polyvore is no longer, of course! More's the pity! I have yet to find another platform that I like as much. That said, it will always be me and my Kate Spade studs! Thank you, Kate! I love that you were you!

One piece swimwear speaks to me! It takes a certain finesse; shall we say, to pull it off with aplomb! Imagine my delight to see the Charlotte Olympia and Adriana Degreas collaboration! If they are not one pieces, they are two fanciful pieces! Classics, for sure!

Lotion up, if you've gotta

Hello!

I; like most ladies, used to put lotion on like clock work after a bath. It is; after all, what we were taught to do, especially here in the south. But, a funny thing happened along the way. I discovered that I do not particularly like using lotion, and I most certainly do not like the pimples that can come as a result of it. Pimples on the face is bad enough, but pimples on the upper arms, the back, the behind or the thighs? I'll pass, thank you very much! " A grits scrub" leaves my skin soft, smooth and pimple free!!! Moisturizer, be it a lotion, a cream or an ointment is reserved for my hands, elbows, knees and feet - as is necessary. So yes, most of the time, I do not use any moisturizer at all. But in the event that you desire glowing skin for summer, natural oils are a sure bet. A little should do 'ya!

How I wish For Days had been around during my college days. I have no idea how many t-shirts I went through, but it had to have been quite a few. Here's to doing something novel! 

A straw bag, aka a summer bag, just feels more like summer! It changes everything!

Paper hats are cool and cooler for hot, humid weather

Hello!

I was introduced to paper hats, and not of the partying sort, several years ago by a national company. I did not know they were made of paper, initially. At first glance, they appeared to look like any of the other summer, straw hats I had tossed on the bed posts. We are; after all, here in the Sandhills where it is warm as often as it is not. And, where it can become hot and humid too during the summer months. Upon further inspection, I noticed the Made of paper tag. I immediately thought "Cool, and cool-er!" And they turned out to be exactly that. I had never come into contact with paper clothing before, and immediately decided that I liked them. And just think, they are not really new at all. I wonder what it would take to get them back on the market in quantities that would make it worth somebody's while. I am thinking out loud here. That would be incredible... 

Clothing and such can be made from almost anything, wouldn't you agree? Stay tuned...

The Wedding of the Year has come, and gone! Sign. It was sooooo nice! Let the look-a-likes begin! Of course, they are for less! Flattery will get you to some places!

I've worn through the handles of one straw purse already! It's either fix the handles, or begin looking for another one. I think I will fix the handles...

Fruit pie, cobbler and tart season is here! Yes, indeed!

The countdown is on until Harry & Meghan say "I do!"

Hello!

And I don't know who is the most nervous: all of us, or the two of them! Probably us!

It's hard to not get excited about a wedding, 'ya know?  But a royal wedding? Oh me, oh my!

Like the rest of the world, I watched Princess Diana's wedding with fascination. Princess Diana glowed! And that train! It was long, but it was perfect for the venue. I can't help but think that the Princess would be pleased with William's and Harry's choice of brides. Her 'extended family' ("at heart" ; and that would be us, in case you are wondering) most certainly are! It is pleasing to know that she is being acknowledged as the special lady that she was...

Every wedding; royal or not, has a hiccup or two! I never knew what Princess Diana's was, until now! The solution was sensible. The wedding went on...

Reportedly, Meghan called on friend and bridal consultant Jessica Mulroney to assist in the planning of the nuptials. It seems as if it was a good choice. Oh, but the details! What will the bride wear? Who will design the gown? Who will attend? What kind of cake will they have? [I think we are up to date on that one, now.] Etc., etc., etc...

Some of the details of the wedding continue to emerge; aka, change even as we write! Ms. Markle may walk herself part way down the aisle, meeting Prince Charles as she nears the altar! Harry & Meghan are "young at heart!" So naturally; yes, we do expect them to incorporate what is a reflection of them. I think it is genius, myself. It is part contemporary, it is part traditional...
